So I caved and bought a Canon Booster for my Canon FT. Do I need it? No. Will it work? Probably not, but I figured at most it will be $25 wasted.
However, I am using my FT without batteries and will have to buy battery adapters to use the booster. I go to the bay to see how much for adapters (I think I need 3) and they cost
Around $60 shipped. What the heck?
Can I test the booster with a three 1.5v batteries? I realize the readings are going to be off, but I just do not want to spend close to $200 to test an item I am not sure will work. Will the higher voltage burn anything?

Also, anything cheaper out there?

Yes. You can get some 675 zinc-air hearing aid batteries and some rubber O rings. I have used the 675 batteries even without O rings in Canon FTb cameras. The spring in the battery chamber held the battery in place. You will need to do a little looking to get a good price on 675s. They were made for larger older hearing aids. I have had some mechanical Canon F-1s converted to 1.5 volts as well as at least one FTb. It should be possible to do this with an FT QL as well as the Booster.
