Haven't shot for quite awhile now and want to shoot some color film.
I've got the FD Plastic lens as noted above, (S/N 7838985) I think it was a pretty good lens
and would like a light body and wide angle to go with it. I've got a 50mm SSC as well.

Maybe another suggestion?

Canon AT-1, FTb, AE-3, TX, F-1, A-1, FT will all fit that lens and provide manual controls. There are certainly more, but that's what I could think of off the top of my head. None of them are plastic. I think if you want a lightweight plastic body to go with Canon FD lenses, your options are very limited. Possibly some of the T-series? I have no firsthand experience with those.

For wide angles, an FD 28mm f/2.8 should be pretty easy to find and affordable; I'd check KEH. I prefer my Kiron 24mm f/2, but that's harder to find and possibly more expensive.

I would go with A-1 since I think is lighter than the FTb.

The FD 50mm is pretty good. Although I'love my Zuiko glass but IMHO it is sharper that its Zuiko counterpart, if that is what you are looking for.

I would add the TLb to Bhuji's list, correct AE-3 to AE-1, and add the AE-1P.
The FT will require you to use stop down metering.

The Canon A 1 is a light weight and multi-mode body, I sold mine several years ago and I have lived to regret it since .

T70.
More features than the T50.
Also cheap.

+1

I had a T90 for a year or so, sold it on, but looking back the T70 is a very capable camera, lighter the T90, seems to have held up well over the years, not as many reported issues at the T90. Has integrated motor drive work with all Fd lens. Should have kept the lens and got a T70.

I suspect this is mainly due to the vast popularity of the T90 while the T70 gets a whole lot less love. While people are prepared to repair their T90, I suspect the T70's with issues were simply scrapped. I've used a T70 for a brief while and found its user interface awkward and not very pleasant to use, although I suppose one might get used to it. It is relatively light-weight compared to the T90 and while I haven't checked prices, I suspect it may be the cheapest entry point into the FD system at this moment, given that both the T90 and the various A's and F's are relatively popular cameras right now, whereas the T70 and the T50 being regarded as the ugly ducklings of the lot (and, IMHO, not entirely without reason).

If you can find one, a T60 might be an attractive proposition as it marries some of the automation of the later T-series with a less noisy manual transport found on the older cameras. But they're rare, and maybe that bumps up the prices.

If you can afford it, a T90 really is the bees knees. Yes, it's heavy and noisier than modern EOS cameras (although comparable to some of the earlier ones). However, it's convenient to use, rugged, and its multi-spot metering system is simply brilliant. I still enjoy using this camera a lot; the T70 I think I probably have ditched or it's in the shed somewhere.

the brief period of time I had a T90 I liked it, had more features than my F3P, at time FD lens were still very inexpensive compared to EOS lens. The person I sold the T90 still uses it, has not any issues that seem common.

I had a T60 but it died within a few months. My recollection is that it was made by Cosina because Canon was in the midst of retooling for the EOS cameras.

Canon A-1 is a great handling camera and fits the hand like a glove.

I'd go with a A-1 in your case. 50/1.8 nFD is way cheap. Even more, you could use a T60, if you want really a cheap body for all the basics of photography. (Cosina-made). They cost next to nothing, included LM.

Well, i have a T60, but can't get the lens off (exactly that 50/1.8 nFD Kitlens) sadly, because you can push only the release pin/button 1mm into, and then the lens isn't dismounting, even with force. Luckily, i only paid 10 EUR for this combo, after my 1st one died, decades ago...)
