The command dial on my A2 is broke and I need to send send it off for repair----I'm not aware of any repair shops near me (west Ky). I'm wandering who does 35mm camera repairs anymore and hoping someone has a good recommendation.

Thanks
Chuck

the dial on the back? should be able to put another back on it.

It's a common failure with the A2 and A2e, I'm surprised none of my other Canon pro-bodies do it yet.

No, the command dial on the A2 is the dial on the top of the camera---it's just free-spinning

KEH does repairs.

Oh gosh, I do hope you can get this repaired and the camera back into active service.
I've had this on my (now retired) EOS 5 in 1999 again in 2002. This dial on the EOS 5/A2/A2e is a terrible tantrum-starter. The trouble is the click stops on a pawl (that look like pronts on a fan bent up at the tips)) that are the mode selectors mesh with plastic slots, and it is very easy (way too easy) to strip the plastic slots out, even with normal wear, thus the free-spinning dial syndrome. Years ago Canon copped a lot of flak for this poor design and it has never been repatriated with something more reliable. Fortunately it's a cheap and fast repair, but a design weakness means it will happen repeatedly if the dial is subject to force e.g. trying to rotate it without pushing the central button down.

thanks for the replies, I'll give KEH a call..............I appreciate the link to the DIY route but it seems it may be a bit tedious for me to attempt that.

You can also try Garry Airapetov at http://www.garryscamera.com/. He cleaned up the sticky shutter on my Elan and the price was reasonable. For the command dial it looks like his price is $68 with shipping.

CD55, thanks for that information.
