It is the same battery.
Also works in the Mamiya RZ67 and the PDN chimney finder for the RB67.
And millions of dog collars (thus the cheap internet prices for the alkaline versions).

But would it be such a in issue to bring another fresh battery for safety? Epecially as Canon hints at that in their manuals if I remember right. With my AE-1 even came a holder to put on the camera strap for a spre batttery. (In the cold one better keeps that second batter near ones body, however within the camera it will get cold again within minutes.)

I think the actual issue starts when being out in the real cold and for a long time. But under these circumstances escapements may deliver problems too...
Here with rather mild winters I am spoiled. In other circumstances I would look for cells which stand cold best.

Well, Canon did offer a remote battery accessory for the A-1, I'm pretty sure. And since the New F-1 takes the same battery, that accessory probably works for the F-1 as well.

Speaking of other cameras that use the same battery, the Nikon EL 2 (and probably the Nikkormat EL), Bronikca ECTL (I think?), Bronica ETR-series, Pentax 67, and no doubt others.

Unfortunately, these are all film cameras.And I own five film cameras that take this battery. It used to be a common one found just about anywhere. Nowadays I'm having no luck finding this battery on the racks of any of the local stores that carry a variety of batteries, including those allegedly for cameras. I guess I'll have to either buy off the internet or go to Batteries Unlimited and pay too much for it.

I haven't checked recently, but here in the US, Ace Hardware had the alkaline variety on the shelf. Ace also had the CR2032 lithium coin cells that fit my DigiSix at ridiculous prices. (Although I often wonder if the dirt cheap CR2032s have as much capacity as the big name flavors.)

Can’t you also “make” one with 4 LR44/357 watch batteries and a piece of tape? The PX28 battery was also called 4SR44 because it was 4 SR44 batteries stacked and shrink wrapped together.

Back in the day that I used a pair of A-1's I always used the silver oxide batteries. I tried the alkaline version and they did not hold up very well.

Then again the Alkaline ones were cheaper. Chosing a battery is based on technical requirements, economy and the degreee of need to go on with one battery without changing etc.
