Canon 50mm f1.2L lens

Anyone interested, FM's thread has now been archived. Anyone actually buy this lens now that its been out almost a year? What can you say on it? It's been well documented on people having issues trying to get shots in focus with this lens. I too tried one out in the store. I put it on my old XTi and got some ok shots. Later put it on my EOS1N and got out of focus shots. So its tricky and hard to get good keepers. I see this lens is now out for around $1250 in the U.S. I wonder what the best Canadian price is now, especially in light our dollar is now worth more then the U.S. Somehow I still think the Canadian dealers are not matching U.S. pricing. Vistek hasn't budged their price since it was introduced. They are still at $1799 which is now way overpriced. Best price I could come up with here in B.C. was about $1520. Anyone?

I don't have any problems getting shots in focus with the old FD manual focus version.

If you want a lens that fast, you could get the FD 50/1.2L for around $500 in nice condition and an FD compatible body for a couple hundred, and have plenty of cash left over for an FD 85/1.2L, and you could still buy some film before hitting $1520.

Thought of that David, but I'm trying to get away from FD bodies, mainly because my eyes aren't what they used to be in focussing. I've missed focus too often on FD bodies. This is why I want to stay with EOS.

I've done some deep research on this lens, and while I don't own one (yet), what I can tell from people I trust is that this is one hell of a lens, and focus issues are actually pretty uncommon overall. How old is yours? I think they might have tweaked it a little by now to address the issue. When I can swing the cost, I'm buying one, no question. My 50mm f/1.2 AIS is my main lens for my Nikon 35mm gear, and after that, I'd rather not go back to an f/1.4 if I don't have to.

I actually was going to buy one, but my funds ended up being tied up. So I cancelled the order. But the lens came in anyway, so I was in to test it twice. Its an early production lens, so it will have any issues such lenses would have when first out. I'd still buy it, but I don't know if I will be able to next year. I'm just researching to see if people are liking theirs and what they got it for.
