As has been mentioned before, when Canon went to the New FD style, the SC and SSC markings were discontinued. Although my preference is for the first black front FD SC model, both it and the later New FD model are excellent. If you are using either of these and your images are not sharp enough, it's not because of the lenses.

For my upcoming trip I will take the New FD 50/1.8 attached to an AE1-P to see how it compares with recent images I made this summer with the FL 50/1.8 on an FX body. Using Portra 800.

You won't be disappointed. Whenever I look through an old photo album where I was shooting with my (new to me then) Canon AE-1 and nFD 50/1.8, I'm still impressed with just how sharp that lens is, but not just sharpness shines through. Color and contrast does also. So have fun and shoot with confidence. Me, I'd pack some slower stuff than ISO 800, though -- but that's just me. I used to prefer Kodachrome 64, so . . . .

Thanks cooltouch. I have been using the 50/1.8 some, but picked up a fun FD 28/2.8 during the travels. Will process the roll in a week and see what I have!

Film wise Portra 800 can be grainy, but I wanted maximum flexibility as I am traveling light (no tripod) and moving around a lot. Most of the images from this trip are in the snapshot category but there are a few that I hope achieved some amount of creative virtue.
