I just got back an F-1N which was overhauled. It came back sooner than I thought it would. The PX28 batteries I ordered have not yet arrived. I tried the 4 MS76 batteries with aluminum foil trick. With no film in the camera, if that matters, I pressed the shutter button half way. The meter needle responded. When I pressed the shutter button the rest of the way, the shutter sounded the same at all speeds whether the speeds were set manually or in Aperture Priority (AE finder attached). Was my battery hack strong enough to activate the meter needle but not strong enough (maybe bad MS76 cells) to get the correct shutter speeds?

Isn't it supposed to work at higher speeds with no battery(F1new)?

It works from 1/90 to 1/2000 mechanically if the battery chamber is empty. I got some PX28L batteries and put one in. The camera now works properly. I also attached the Power Winder FN and the camera works in shutter priority too. Now if it stops raining I can have some fun with it.
