Canadian Summicron

Is there any difference between the Canadian Summicron-M 50mm and the German version? I've just bought one off ebay, but there was no mention of it being Canadian. Does this affect the value of the lens?

Otherwise, the lens look perfect, and I got it for a very good price - or so I thought....

There are collectors who will pay more for a German lens than a Canadian lens. There is no reason to beleive that a Canadian lens offers a lower level of performance than a German lens where Leica lenses are concerned.

There does tend to be a discrepancy between the secondhand prices - but only for the collectors who tend to be snobs about where stuff is made. As far as users are concerned, the Canadian lenses are just as good as the German ones but can be obtained for less on the open market - this is not a bug it's a feature.

I don't recall which products at the moment, but there are one or two Canadian items which are worth more to collectors than equivalent German ones. It depends mostly on the rarity, not the quality (which is identical).

Absolutely correct. And some of the very best designs actually approach the quality of Zeiss optics!
