Can you stack Rolleinar filters?

Hey guys,

I was wondering if you can stack Rolleinar filters to closer macros? The thing I was thinking .. it's more glass to shoot through. Would this effect the clearity?

Rolleinars are not filters, they are supplementary lenses. Stacking isn't a good idea, but try it and see if you like it.

You can stack them, but if you stack 2+2 or 3+1 or 3+2 or 3+3 (any combination greater than 3) you won't be able to compensate for parallax using a Rolleiparkeil.

The question of clarity, though, is more difficult to answer. I don't find using any kind of supplementary close-up lens results in what I call adequate clarity.

I have stacked them with sharp results. You have to use them as both the viewing and the taking lenses so parallax is a bit of a guessing game. Once before I owned a #3 I stacked the two on top of the one taking lens then held the 2 viewing lens up to the 1 viewing lens and was surprised to actually get something in focus.

I've noted with some cheap Bay 1 filters on my Yashica TLR it's likely that stacking could vignette, especially noticeable at the corners. I think the official Rollei products have larger clear diameter, so they may be OK, but just something to check for.

A Rolleinar 3 gets you pretty close already. If you have
an f/2.8 Rolleiflex that takes Bay III accessories, you
can get a 0.70x Tele Rolleinar, and stack a Rolleinar 3
on top of it easy. The Tele Rolleinars are one-piece
goggles that fit over both lenses, with Bay III mounts
for both lenses so fitting conventional Rolleinars on
top works. The Tele Rolleinars are a bit pricey but
I like leaving one on my 2.8E as a way of getting a
step closer to my subject.

Sanders... can you comment on the 'clarity" part of the question, please. I seem to recall you having good success with Rolleinars, etc - or maybe that was just something I read on the internet I have not tried very hard but never been happy, mostly with bad focus and DOF.
