Can you post your best photograph and explain why you consider your best?

Hey guys, since i´ve been here I have seen a lot of great photos and learnt a lot. But I want to see your inner side and know the people here a little bit more and what different points of what makes a good photo you have.

When I say your best photo or photos I mean pictures that have a special meaning to you guys. For example, a picture of someone you love or a moment you dont want to forget, or even a photo that reminds you of sad times and how you overcame it. Of course you can post your best photos in terms of theory like great composition, charpness or anything else that goes more with technique. But I invite you to post in a more "emotional" way. Sooo im excited to see your work

I know I know XD. But as I said in my comment, im looking for a more open discussion, and not just looking to the photos. Also I am not asking for the best photos technically, you could even post a totally white photograph (that obviously you wouldnt post on the gallery) but if that photo meant something for you and had a story behind it, it would be a great picture to post here

I can't pick one...there are a bunch of contenders for stand alone prints, then there are photo essays where each one in a series leans on the others.

When I'm dead (and can't produce anything better) somebody can start a poll.

I consider this to be my most technically challenging shot. I was taking a product photography lighting workshop, and this represents my half-day long effort during the time that the instructor allocated to the exercise. The instructor was a commercial photographer teaching to about 4 photographers.

Shot was on 4x5 transparency film, so exposure had to be perfect for each portion of the combined three exposures...not darkroom manipulation. A single shot was actually THREE exposures on one piece of film. Shutter was closed and darkslide inserted into folm holder during each t part of the overall exposure. Polaroids were shot for each phas eof shooting, to determine best exposure, and the final composite of three exposures shot on transparency only after Polaroid testing of each phase.
  1. Conventional reflective softbox for overall set display...the least amount of time and effort was spent on lighting in this phase...most time was on set design.
  2. Transmission light (shoot through) illumination of wine in glass to accentuate the wine;s color, thru a cutout to control light coming forward, to only transmit thru the wine glass.
  3. Transmission gelled light (shoot through) thru grey background paper for selective background illumination, using a cone to limite light spread on the background paper.

The back story, the experience of making the image, and the resulting print makes this image one of my most important images.
To keep it short. 1980 -- three months hitchiking in NZ with new 4x5 with a major light leak. One or two prints. Start planning and buying new camera and bicycle for a 6-month return trip in 1986. South Island, the flu and solid wet weather for a week in my tent after feeling shitty for the previous two weeks but still trying to ride. Had not set the camera up for three weeks but finally recovered, rode south to this place...but feeling visually blocked (sort of like writer's block?). From my campsite, I rode to the Truman Cove trail. On the way, I found a dead stoat/weasel -- hit by a car, popping off its head and one arm perfectly intact. I took it down the trail to the beach and posed him (her) rock climbing, on driftwood, and amongst the seaweed. I figured doing something rather nuts would help clear the blockage.

I left RK (RoadKill) Stoat behind, walked down the cove to find this. It has just everything I want in an image. powerful triangular shapes of different textures meeting a round black rock. Forms that march in from the right and fall from above. Light reflecting boldly off of all surfaces And something to find to reward those who look at photographs.

For me it is a moving target. The favorite for now is not always my favorite. Being honest to a fault, I could not post something as my favorite without feeling I was not exactly being truthful. I do wonder sometimes if most people were asked to tell their 10 favorite prints from any and all photographers including themselves, if they were honest their favorite images would be mostly their own. And why not?

This was the standout photo from a trip to Japan. Long exposure on a rooftop with a Mamiya 6 and Portra 160 film. I prefer Ektar for long exposures so wasn't sure how Portra 160 would turn out but was pleased with the results.
Have scanned this on a Flextight and printed it 20 by 20 inches and it looks even better up close and in person.

As for favourite photo of all time, it'd have to be this. In fact I don't even remember taking it...it all happened so quick. Maybe not a technically perfect photo but it evokes childhood memories and the nostalgia factor means a lot to me. Taken on Mamiya 6 and Portra 160.

Here's my best street shot. There was one small part that concerned me when I took it, but not anymore. It seems unimportant to the composition :}
