Hello all,

Please forgive my ignorance, I've only been getting into 35mm photography for a few months now, still very much learning.

I recently won an Olympus mju ii zoom 80 on eBay and shot a test roll, ISO 200 film on a bright morning. Almost all of my shots came back with a sort of broken ring of light, as shown in the pics below. Any idea what might be the cause and what I could do to remedy it?

Thanks in advance.

There is a second issue too:

A red patch at the lower edge of the images.
Most likely a light sealing issue at the upper back of your camera.

There are still phone booths in the UK??

That "halo" looks like a very strong reflection from something circular inside the film chamber.
A second leak causing a reflection this time.

More plausible though would be a leak around the lens barrel. Causing a direct hit on the film.

If you look at the barrel mechanism from the back, you will see that it is not symmetrical to the film. The barrel mechanism is located exactly in the same asymmetric way as the halo related to the image/film edges.

Open the back with your lens still extracted and in a dark room shine with a flashlight around the barrel and look into the film chamber the same time.
