My guess is the seller is a scammer.

I remember someone recently reported a scammer selling Linhof gear on E-Bay. Bumping the bid amount up $1,000,000 causes E-Bay to investigate so someone took it upon themselves to bid that much to get the attention of E-Bay.

refer to the thread started yesterday titled, "so what happened here?"

Ah... Greg, you must be right. I love Linhof, but sheesh, if I had a million to spend on a camera, why would I want or need one. Thanks, Michael.

There's a discussion of this over at lfphoto.info on the Q&A forum. The seller is a scammer, and the bidders are bidding over 1 mil to attract the attention of eBay, which tends to be lax about following up on scam alerts. The pictures are from an auction by Adorama a few months ago, and the purchaser of that camera has been contacted just to be sure that they are not reselling it with Adorama's pictures.

Here's the thread:

The $5,655.00 that Adorama sold it for might as well be a million $ to me.

I'm shocked to find that there are scammers on ebay at all. Everyone seemed like such nice people.

I'm still waiting for the Ferarri that I bought from a nice gentleman a few months ago for only $25,000. He has emailed me a few times to say that it's on the way, so I guess any day now.

While I was waiting I bought a old mint Rolls from him as well and he said he'd deliver them both together.

Michael

Maybe Bill Gates and Larry Ellison have gotten into a bidding war?

Wow! Michael. That's great. Boy, you sure know how to spot the deals. Well, if the guy said they're on the way, then you know it's true.

Is that the guy that specified payment in cash only, in small nonconsecutive bills to be placed in a plain brown paper bag and left in a locker in the bus station because he said that he didn't trust paypal, money orders or cashiers checks?

Dang! I bid 24,999.51 on that and you edged me out.

Wow. There are some great opportunities on ebay. I think I will sell a driver's license that belonged to George Washington. It's a rare item, sure to be worth a lot.
