Can this old film be cross processed b&w?

This is some old ektachrome 16mm film 7242 that used the defunct ME-4 process.
Could this possibly be cross processed with black and white reversal?

You could probably use the VNF process. Kodak has published the formulas on their web site.

The ME-4 process requires a pre development hardener step. Does vnf1 have that?
Do you have a link to the vnf1 process?

Yes, it has a prehardener if my memory serves me.

Processed as B&W reversal would give you a grainy, but usable reversal image. The emulsions used are rather foggy and high in silver to give the correct dye images.

Looking at bleach bypassed slide I have I'd say that it might be impossible to get decent dmax for projection and there might be some color cast - at least some color films seem to depend somewhat on bleach.I don't know if b&w reversal can do that. Yesterday I've put unexposed strip of cine positive film through b&w process and it came out slightly yellow.

You could get it cross processed in ECN.

Is vnf chemistry even available to the average guy? I know this is the wrong forum but is it even close to e6?

I have a 400' roll that someone gave me and wondered what it could be used for.

VNF and E6 have the same roots but are slightly different. They are closer than ECN and C41, the color negative processes.

You might get by with E6 chemistry at 85 degrees with pre-hardener and by adding Benzyl Alcohol to the color developer. You would also need a real stabilzer with formalin. You would probably need a ferricyanide bleach and a clearing bath come to think of it.
