Can not understand this vignetting....

Have had some vignetting on some of my 35mm shots recently.

Camera is Nikon FE2. It appears that it only occurs with my 28mm f2.8 Nikkor, although this has only just been completely serviced.

I have attached a photo illustrating this problem, although on some of the other negs it is more of a rectangular shape in one corner, as opposed to thie triangle, and on one or two there is a wavy line encroaching about 5% into the frame on one side.

I have examined the camera and lens carefully. Other negs on the same roll not displaying this problem.

I know that there is not much to go on here, but anyone got any ideas?

I agree with Bill that it looks like a lens shade problem.

Note that the vignette in the example affects the upper right and lower left corners. This suggests to me that you are not using a simple, round "cup" type lens shade.

Instead, it looks to me like you are using a shade designed for wider angle lenses that consists of four rounded "blades" - two of which are short and two are long. If so, you need to make sure that is is lined up with the larger blades parallel with the longer dimension of the negative, and the shorter blades perpendicular to that longer dimension.

I agree with Monophoto. You've got the lens shade on cockeyed.

Hi Matt,

The easiest way to find out what's causing the vignetting is to put the lens, filters, shade etc you used back on the camera. Then without having any film in the camera, open the back, trip the shutter whilst on a 'B' or 'T' setting and have a look through from the corners and see what the problem is. You'll probably find the wider open the aperture the more vignetting is likely so this may not show up at f8 but will at f2.8 for example. Did you happen to have one of the square Cokin/Lee type filter holders (slightly rotated) on at the time?

OK - thanks for the guidance everyone.

Feeling a little silly now - Yes I was using a shade with the 4 baldes with two being longer - I must have had them poorly aligned.

I just assumed that there would not be a problem but I obviously had not looked hard enough in the view finder, and at all apertures.
