Looking at the film's dimensions, it appears that all I need is a 4x4 negative carrier (DIY mat board type)? The 50mm lens that's on there now should work, same on the condenser, etc?
Some enlargers designed for 135 are very tight to the 43mm (nominal) diagonal of that format. So the 56.5mm (nominal) diagonal of 127 won't be fully covered by their light path.
Thanks Matt. This is my old Lentar, and the metal area above the negative carrier area is square, The square area is big enough for 35mm film on the long end (and then some). It's also quite a bit smaller than the condenser itself, since the square light path clips the corners on the round condensers. Sounds like I'd better unpack it and measure things.
While I have had an array of enlargers over the years I can't remember any of them being easy to work with if you wanted to go larger than their designated film size. The best i can recommend is perhaps to go in the other direction. I have a Durst M600 (and a 601) and they are very easy to go down from 6x6 to 35mm this would cover your 4x4 with some movement very easily. The standard neg carrier has wipers you move to mask out the area you don't want and i would say this has worked very well for me. Is there a particular need for it to be a 35mm enlarger?
Lentar did offer enlargers that were 6x6 capable, in terms of light coverage. My Bogen Salon Special was similarly up to 6x6 and came standard with that neg carrier and lens FL (75mm).
My enlarger might be called the Lentar Jr. model. It's an L-35, and I suspect that's exactly what it is. I'll have to find the box the enlarger'a packed in tomorrow and measure the area that Matt mentioned.
