I have cut it out of older cameras, and the F4 has a manual rewind option, but I want to make sure before I pop the back that the R1 (or is it R2?) button will release the spool for me to cut it out and remove it...

Just curious, whats the reason for cutting and removing?

The R1 button releases the spool to allow you to manually rewind. Pushing the R2 after the R1 activates the auto rewind.

What do you mean by cutting the film out? Removing the film? Or are you actually cutting something?

I have a roll of Tmax that has been half shot for awhile. I want to cut out and develop what I have shot so far, but save the rest to be shot later. Tmax is expensive.

There is no reason that you cannot do what you want. ===> You can do what you want.

So you just need to open R1 put camera in a dark bag or darkroom, open back, cut film, take film off of take up spool and put in developing spool, then tank.
I usually just nip the corners on the leader of film still in the canister, so it doesnt catch, close the back and press start to load it up.

Thanks - I've done it in other cameras, I just wanted to make sure the take-up spool releases.
