Shoot, sure would like to make it up there....Would someone give Les a big hug for me...It's OK, he is used to the way this Texan greets him. Sorry to miss you Les, and would have loved to meet Bill as well (couple of the finest gentlemen in the business, IMHO). Have fun guys!!

I just got off the phone with both Bob Carnie and Les McLean and, while I was looking forward to this before, I am now extremely excited and honored to be a part of what Bob is doing in Toronto. I can already tell this is going to be a weekend to remember. Having been a big fan of Les' for long before I joined up here on APUG, it is going to be a real thrill to finally meet the man face to face. I, for one, am really happy I am not going to miss this one and I can't thank Bob enough for letting me come along for the ride.

Looking forward to meeting as many APUGgers as can make the trip. If in the area and not able to attend the workshop, I hope you can make the Thursday night exhibition of work Les and I are to present as well as the party to take place afterward. After hearing what Bob has planned, I think I am safe in assuring a fine time for all.

Too much going on for me with the family this weekend to make the workshops

I having been making strawberry jam on Canada day weekend with my mom for I think about 35 years now (less 3 july 1'sts spent working in Australia) So I am not going to bail on that arrangement.

I do plan on scampering out of work a bit early to get down to the get together.

Hmmm...

I just found my notes from last years Texas workshop and it was my understanding that Les enjoys drinking something called "Highland Park Single Malt Scotch", not sure if that's still the case, but

welcome back to this side of the pond Les!

Wish I could join everyone in Toronto...

I don't think Les would remember .
He gave me the flight number but did not tell me the airline, only 500 flights incoming that day, as well he locked his luggage with a padlock but the silly bugger left the key with Marg in England. We had to open it up with a hack saw.
He's here and getting ready for a good few weeks and it great to have him back.
We will post some pics on Fri of the progress of the show and workshops.

I accept the challenge Mr Carnie, last man standing will switch off the lights. I have to say it's good to be back in Canada although the heat is a bit too much for my delicate fair skin I am looking forward to the street workshop and plan to keep going until the last person collapses, and it won't be me! Now theres a challenge from across the pond.

As usual Bob has been his usual warm friendly self and has taught me a few pointers in addressing liquour store staff. Seriously, thanks for the invitation and the hospitality Bob, I feel so much at home with you and Laura and 8paws.

I talked on the phone to Mr Schwab for the first time yesterday and just know that we are going to have a great time with a bit of competition thrown in for good measure.

Must go Carnie calls we are off to work

Wow.. Day 2 complete and I am beat. We were at it over 14 hours today! I'm loving this one. Everyone has been terrific and very dedicated. One of the best workshops I've done. Bob Carnie has a wonderful vision for this place and I am again honored to be a part of this. Les is everything I imagined and more. Finally meeting him has been a real treat. I'm exhausted and it is time to hit the pillow. Two days to go and I am enjoying every minute.

Jees I was only kidding , Mclean and I were sitting having a steak and beer blinded by the light on your dusk workshop and wondering when the dark would come.


McLean here;

Hey Dinesh when you deliver the film after dark tonight can you please do so with a little less noise. Bob Laura and I were having our beauty sleep when you left the film last evening and you managed to wake us up.
Bill, if you were to have the opportunity to have a nice meal this evening would you be so kind to tell me so that Bob and I can at least try it out and report how good or bad it was when you drag your silly ass in on Sunday morning. Don't forget, 9am sharp Sunday Morning.

Yep,

At the northern latitudes right now - there's only three brews b/w sunset and sunrise.

But we're now past the solstice so they may need an extra beer to compensate for the shortening days!

An absolutely great workshop. First class all the way, from the venue, Bob, Kevin and crew, Bill, Les and the hackers who were trying to learn something from the pros. Shooting, swearing, printing, eating, drinking...we had it all. The resulting images that were displayed at the wrap-up this afternoon were awesome. Now, off to bed for some much needed rest. It has been a very long 3 days

It has certainly been a long three days but from my point of view a very enjoyable and rewarding time. As John said the set of prints from both mine and Bill's group were excellent and very different from each other. I don't think I have laughed so much on any workshop that I have ever done, thanks to all concerned. Having said that there were many serious and in depth discussions about photo related topics and the work produced during three days of intensive effort from everyone.

My thanks go to Bob, Laura, Keven and Michelle of Elevator for making this weekend possible and to Bill Schwab and both our groups for their input and efforts. This tutor is now going to try to catch up on some sleep having been constantly reminded during the past three days that he is the old man of the team, so much so that I'm beginning to believe them all. Fat chance!!!!

Back home and partially rested, it is my turn to chime in. What a great time I had with everyone at Elevator this past weekend! As Les says, it was a long, action packed weekend. I was most impressed by Bob and Kevin's facilities, hospitality and dedication to furthering the cause. What a place! As for those attending my workshop as well as Les' crew, I was very proud. They were such a talented group and made some beautiful photographs. Thanks to all for the laughs, inspiration and very hard work. Those not on Bob's mailing list, sign-up so you can be notified of upcoming events. They have a great vision for the place and there is much more to come.

Thank you again Bob, Kevin, Michelle, Laura, Les, Andrew, Dinesh, Joanne, John, Paul and Scott!! I can't wait to come back.

Its peaceful here today, Les is in the darkroom with Fugal doing a one on one. What a difference a day makes.

Kevin and I would really like to thank the participants who without would not make these mini workshops happen. I hope that they take away with them a feel / love / inspiration for photography that we at Elevator have.
That is why I bring to our city instructors who we feel have this passion and commitment to open up and answer any and all questions fired at them over the three days.
Bill, Catherine and Les thank you very much.

We will be having another round in Oct. Bill and Les have agreed to come back, I have been in contact with Sandy King as well to be here in Oct if it dosen't conflict with his busy scheduale.
Sandy IMO is one of the best round instructors there is and we are very lucky in APUG to have these three guys chiming in on posts.

We are working on a new guest instructor, *we will keep the name quiet for awhile* but needless to say this person comes well recommended.

The workshop will be shooting colour and black/white landscapes in the Muskoka area, this will be digital and traditional course. We will have a jobo system for film, Imocan scanner on site and we will ftp the files to Elevator to be mural printed in Colour and Black/White.
We will wrap up in Toronto to look at the final prints and each particapant will walk away with exhibition quality mural prints.

Muskoka for those not aware is one of the most colourful and magic places anywhere in the world and we probabaly be located smack dab in the middle of the most beautiful fall colours during Oct.
I see three days shooting up North and one day wrap up back in Toronto. We will be starting the propaganda on our website www.elevatordigital.ca in Aug after I get back from a short vacation.

BTW this thread started about Beer and we all did a good job consuming a few pints. Les the silly bugger poured a whole beer on his crotch at one dinner and I had to pretend he was my senile old grandfather , it was soooo embarassing.
