Can Aperture 2 digest 16 bit greyscale tiffs?

Scanning XP2 negs on my Coolscan V ED 16 bit greyscale, I cannot open the files in Capture NX2. Although I can see the picture in the preview, a message appears when opening it (it says that the file format is not compatible). The image was scanned on a MacBook, Capture runs on a PC. May this cause problems? Or is it the 16bit greyscale mode?

I am considering switching to Aperture, but would like to find out if I may get the same problem here too before spending my $$.

I use Aperture 2 with 16 bit RGB tiffs (400mb scans from 4x5)- other than being a little slower, no problems. I wouldn't think it should matter which computer you use, but isn't there some option when saving to optimize for Mac or optimize for PC? Again, don't see why a tiff isn't a tiff across platforms, regardless of which platform optimized for.

Thank you for the input! Tif itself seems to be cross-platform compatible, I have no problem modifying the files in PS CS2 on the PC. I just don't like the workflow (only use PS for specific modifications, it's not part of my normal workflow, too heavy). It's just Capture NX2 telling me it can't do a thing with this file...

Since I work on a Mac, I think I will switch to Aperture entirely. I have tried the program, and I like the workflow. Nikon software has its advantages, but its limitations too.
