Can anyone tell me how the EVS coupling on the Rolleicord V and Va work?

Huge fan of the Rolleicord and not a huge fan of EVS coupled shutter speeds and apertures. I've got a Rolleicord IV that I'm really, really happy with except for two things:
- Can't change the shutter speed to 500 after it's been cocked
- No support for the 16 shot attachment

Rolleicord Vb is great, but it's quite a bit heavier and I really don't like how the EVS coupling works - it's very annoying to push in. I'd like to know if the Rolleicord V or Va (apparently there are two types?) offer any middle ground.

Here's my understanding:

Rolleicord IV: Completely uncoupled
Rolleicord V: No clue
Rolleicord Va (type 1): EVS coupling is "rigid" - this is what it says in the Evans book, "Guide to Rollei Cameras"
Rolleicord Va (type 2): EVS coupling is "adjustable" - again from the Evans book
Rolleicord Vb: Shutter speed and aperture are always linked. Need to physically press in the shutter speed adjustment lever and they can be manipulated freely.

Apparently there's different ways of adjusting it from the Rolleicord IV to the Vb, but I'm not really sure what this means in practice.

Can anyone familiar fill me in?

My Vb doesn't require pressing in the shutter speed lever to decouple the EV system. Yes, one lever does press in, but I can also change settings by holding one lever steady and moving the other. You have to overcome the force of the spring holding the pawl in place that maintains the EV indexing, but no big deal.

Well, I don't remember if I changed the spring in mine when I overhauled it. It's not hard to do, lessen the spring force and make decoupling easier.

I don't remember all the differences between the assorted models. EV coupling is something I find embarrassing and removing it or making it easily overridden is like picking up dog poop with a plastic bag- hold your nose, don't look too close, and move on as quickly as possible...

Some leaf shutters use a booster spring for 1/500 and recommend setting to 500 before cocking.

+1, it's true that a lot of people find 1/500th unnerving after the other speeds slide by so smoothly, it can feel like something is being forced.
