Like many here, I use the Pentax IV spotmeter and, like you, I am frustrated by the tiny dim light that only illuminates the lower end of the scale.
If it was a bit brighter and would light the first half of the scale, that would be great, but it's a couple or three EVs from showing this.

Is it possible to replace the OE light source for a brighter bulb into the meter, has anyone tried and is the meter hermetically sealed?

If anyone has something to say about this topic, I am sure as heck listening.

Or else, check with Richard Ritter, who also does repair and calibrations on these.

I find that it only ‘needs’ to illuminate the first few numbers. When readings are above that there’s usually enough light to see the scale. Suppose if you are in a nightclub the story is different.
