Cameras in Las Vegas

Does anyone have experience taking their camera with them around Las Vegas?
I will be there in October and would like to carry around a camera and a couple of lens in a holster type camera bag carried on my shoulder.
I know photography is probably not allowed in the gaming areas.
I am fine with being told I can not photograph in certain areas or venues, but I would like to be able to walk around with my camera(zipped up in my camera bag) and not have to return to my vehicle or room and then make a return trip to grab it again.
I would think as long as the camera is in its bag it would be okay to walk around with it to events and shows.

Can anyone help me out with their own experience or information on this?

can't think why you couldn't take it with you -- the streets are jammed with other folks all carrying every manner of digital camera, even in gaming areas. Why not you? Your biggest danger will be pickpockets.

I've always found vegas to be singularly uninspiring -- too fake, too crowded. But if fake and flashy is what you want to shoot, it's there in spades.

Back in '09 I went on a bit of a bender in Vegas for 3 weeks and carried a Leica and a 35mm with me. Spent a lot of time in the casinos and no one ever said a word to me. I didn't have a camera bag though. Just don't shoot around the games. Keep in mind everyone in Vegas is a tourist and phone cameras are ubiquitous at this point. If you have a small camera, no one will care. Whip out your Canon 1DX and a 70-200 and people are going to want to know what the f^¢% you are doing. As far as going to the shows and whatnot, don't even bother taking a camera. You won't get good pictures and you will annoy the hell out of anyone around you. Just enjoy the show.

I've never seen such a huuuuge concentration of ugly and fat people in one place as in Las Vegas. And they didn't care about me taking photos, so...

That is so precious. Organized crime probably has an interest in Vega but I kinda doubt that the shows is where its at.

I"m moving there soon, in a week... and i spent the month of july there as well as few other weeks earlier in the year. Everyone has a camera, and carries it around. Even at shows exhibitions etc. don't worry, you can also carry it around into the casino's and onto the gaming floors. people take photos next to the themed slots all the time. The 'real' games are also crowded with people taking selfies, but that's still kinda frowned upon. Anyway take your camera, no one will make you take it back to the car. especially if it's in a bag.

everyone there carries their phones. as such the casinos are much better about taking photos inside the casinos. the general manager of one casino said to me " I dont want to discriminate against real photographers, those that use film". I have even asked the pit bosses if I could take pictures of an unused craps table. He said no problem. so I got a great picture of one. just dont bring a tripod
