Anyone know a good source for those leather pads that fit over camera lugs and protect the finish from metal rings?

I am speaking of the ones that are about the size of a US Quarter; not the triangle lug type. I tend to use the Hippy straps, not the thin vinyl straps that come with the camera.

Tried a few searches, but came up empty.

Look on ebay for 'camera strap protectors', there are many types to choose from.

Thanks John Will and Macfred! I was having a bad Google-fu day...

Holy mackarel, I can't believe they're asking $4 for a square inch of leather! Anyone with a paper puncher and a scissor and a $4 leather scrap can craft dozens of those at home!

Sounds like a business opportunity!

What about cutting such onself out of a piece of surplus leather. All one needs should be a break-off knive and perhaps a punch of apt size.

Gordy's is a great idea...unfortunately, for about $20USD you can get those leather bumpers along with a better (IMO) strap from you know where. All sorts of colors.

By "better" I mean that the strap itself is a various-color fat, soft, quarter-inch round cord. At first it looked ridiculous but I've found that its very comfortable behind neck and doesn't slip from shoulder. It can't wear through because it's so fat.

I might do that. I know there is a Tandy leather crafting store not too far from me.

They don't have to be leather, you know. I've seen them made out of denim or other heavy fabrics.

Like guitars players with their strap buttons, you may use Grolsh beer rubber cap washers?

Yeah, but Tandy has all the punches and cutters that even Vegan leather requires to do a neat job...

For a relatively simple item such as this, the first thing I always ask myself: "With the materials and tools I have at home, can I make it myself rather than buying it ready-made?" More often than not, the answer is YES!

Depends how heavy the use is. I got cameras where the brass of the body lugs holes are deeply ground out and the brass top cover has deep striae ground in.
