Scotch Book Tape 845 is the easiest for practical book repairs that will be more transparent and last much longer than any kind of ordinary office tape, masking tape, packing tape, or any tape not designed for books. I’m an academic, so I own thousands of books, and I’ve been using it for decades, and I’ve never seen it yellow or delaminate.
Of course more advanced archival techniques such as Helge describes are even better for rare books and materials you want to collect and preserve, but for books that you plan to use rather than collect, Scotch Book Tape 845 is strong, durable, and easy to apply.
Since this topic isn’t really specific to 35mm cameras, I’ve moved the thread to “Antiques, Collecting, and Photographic History,” since collectors are often interested in manuals, advertising, books, and ephemera.
