Camera display

Hello everyone,

We have been reorganizing. Right now all my film camera's are stuffed in a closed cabinet but I would like to have the nice ones on display. The ones that don't make the shelf will probably go up for sale since I want to keep my collecting under control. Do any of you display your camera in an original way in your house. Please post some pictures for inspiration

Interesting, but kind of expensive at $21 each. I guess, for very low production, the 3D printing is OK, but having a mold made and run would allow them to be a whole lot cheaper. In the comments, someone mentioned that hardware store angle brackets would work fine. Not as "Artistic" but very practical. Thanks for the info. anyway - never know when someone wants just that.

I lock my cameras and lenses away, I don't believe in making it easy for thieves.

There hasn't been a theft in my neighborhood in 20 years - maybe longer.

...at least not by anyone who's survived.

They don't let us shoot buglers in my country our legal system doesn't consider death to be a a suitable punishment for robbery, so I have to make do with locking my equipment out of sight.

Well, of course not! Musicians should be cherished and coddled even though when I was in the Army I came to hate reveille.

Indeed a nice idea but a bit expensive. Since for some of my cameras the 'hangie' would be more expensive than the camera itself

are you living in a dust-free laboratory? otherwise I would not put any optical device on display without a showcase (vitrine). it will be ruined forever after a few months outside...

You might wonder at what circumstances the samples I got once were stored and then offered. And what they back then looked liked.
Showing them now without cover would definetely not ruin them.
But that sooner or later necessitates another cleaning job. Something I'd rather avoid...

I don't have any wish to display my equipment and make my home look like a camera store, I'm not out to impress anyone. I worked in photographic shops for almost 25 years that was enough in one lifetime. I only want access to my cameras when I want to use them.

Well, the 5 camera's I plan on keeping will hardly make my home look like a camera store Having them visible I think will be an incentive to switch between them and use them all on a more regular basis. I don't really intend on being a collector. Just my 35mm SLR, my Hexar, a polaroid automatic, a compact and a medium format camera. One for each occasion.
It's like having my guitar on the wall. I just use it more often than when it would be in its case.
And it's not to show off or anything, but rather because they're just beautiful objects to look at and admire.

Which years? I think the period from maybe 1953 to 1983 would've been the most enjoyable.

Not quite Theo more like 1965 to 1994 but I'm glad I'm retired because I couldn't do the job any more there's very little they sell in camera stores these days I recognise.

Probably not a good idea in earthquake country.

Nearly all models have a tripod mount at their bottom. When displaying them open at a wall on a tiny holder, there is no reason not to use that mount for an unobtrusive safety screw of some kind.

Otherwise it does not need an earthquake do wipe them down...

Yes, because you'll keep dust (fungus food) off the lens and will most likely keep the relative humidity under 60%.

You won't need the light (warmth from incandescent bulb) if relative humidity is usually under 55%.

I have been putting my growing collection into an Ikea Detolf cabinet (used to hold my 25mm miniatures collection) but am a tad concerned about the width the shelves can hold.

Ikea say the Detolf shelves can hold 3.5kg (approx 8lb). Perhaps replacement shelves with thicker glass might be an option.

This is a cabinet from Ikea with a glass door. I put my d-cameras and lenses in it to reduce dust.

The shelves will hold a lot of weight. Also, this cabinet requires you to assemble it yourself.

Looks good. I've been looking at glass cabinets since there was talk about best protecting the camera's against dust, but mostly the shelves are to far apart so it takes up a lot of space. Maybe I'll find something useful on a flea market.
