well, i have a Cambo monorail, a Polaroid 405 and a Problem ...

the Polaroid 405 doesn't fit on the back of my Cambo! it's too wide!
i mean, OK, it doesn't fit under the groundglass, which i expected.
it's too thick and the groundglass doesn't open far enough.

but worse is that the Polaroid back is wider then the opening where it should insert.
i had no idea this was going to be a problem, since i thought all these sizes were standard.

does anybody also encountered this problem? and so, how can it be solved?

i'll post some pictures of camera and back soon.

thanks,
maarten.

The Polaroid 405 back was meant to be used on cameras with Graflok backs where you remove the ground glass after focusing and attach the back via two sliding locks. It was not designed to slide in like regular holders.

I have a 405 and have never had any problem fitting it into a Cambo back. Were there different versions of the 405? The one pictures does appear to have the kind of flanges that would make it difficult to fit into a standard back–– it seems more suited to a Graphic back, one of those that required slotted film holders.

Maarten, is that a 9x12 back or a 4x5 back? Most accessories, including the Polaroid backs, are made for 4x5 and your back looks a little too narrow.

i haven't got the slightest idea, paul. how can i tell?
the back is too narrow indeed, so i can't use the polaroid 405 with it.
i guess i'll go looking for a graflok back (anyone? you'ld make me happy!)

mm

The standard 4x5 holder is roughly 121 mm wide (4 3/4 in.) Measure your spring back. If it is less than that, you need a standard 4x5 back. If it is at least that wide, you may need a new 405; one that fits.
