Is a Calumet Caltar-S just a re-badged Schneider Symmar-S lens?

I think I remember reading that they were but wanted to be sure before I went purchasing...

Thanks!

as far as I know, Caltar-SE is Sironar. Caltar-S is Symmar-S. Still a great lens.

NO!

The Caltar - S is an early Rodenstock Sironar (pre -N)

Caltar S-II is a Schneider Symmar-S

Caltar II - N is a Rodenstock Sironar-N

Caltar II-E is Rodenstock Geronar.

Caltar HR is...well, at least two different mfgrs and models.

The early Sironar (Caltar-S) should be avoided as there are many who have reported issues with element separation.

Thanks Brad, glad to know about the separation. I was going to buy one on eBay since the price is nice -$150 BIN but don't really need it, I am wanting a 135mm actually so with this info I will pass...I love APUG, saves me hassles so many times. Thanks!

I stand corrected.

The early Sironar (Caltar-S) should be avoided as there are many who have reported issues with element separation.

This I will support - I've had separation problems with an early Rodenstock I bought.
