Keep your eye on ebay, if you're open to purchasing there, that is. Right now, there are two aluminum versions on that site. One is grossly overpriced and the other is a "fixer."

FWIW, I've been trolling the LFPF forum for a few weeks with a WTB thread and have yet to turn up an offer for a "Green Monster" (the magnesium version, which is about 4 pounds lighter than the aluminum).

Anyway, best of luck!

Regards,
~Mark

$200 (current bid) for a light-tight C1, with 8x10 and 4x5 backs is grossly overpriced??? I didn't see a fixer.

Given that the OP also posted on the German boards, I'll presume he's on that side of the atlantic. I certainly can't see any C1 8x10s on the Australian ebay.

Hello forum

Thanx for the answers. Yes I´m from the other side of the big "sea". From Europe. A "Green Monster would be great. It has a commanding presence. How is the handling. has anyone experienced values. Thanx Patrick

Agreed. Neither did I. And I own a C1.

I just sold my C1 last week. Shipping from US to EU kind of negates a good price for one, IMO. I like the C1, just as long as you don't have to carry it around so much.

I love mine. Bloody heavy. But mines not the light weight magnesium version. I paid $1200 for mine about 6 years ago or so. Came with holders and a lens. Worth every penny I paid. Sure I can get a good deal if I'm patient. But worth what I paid.

Though I'm looking at a lighter wooden 8x10 (or building my own). It's pretty heavy and I would like to shoot 8x10 outdoors more.

Yeah, similar with mine. It's an aluminum Beast. Heavy, but that's a two-edged sword. It's also rugged as hell. I paid $1,500.

Camera (very dirty from storage, but not a single part missing or broken), mounting block, two perfect G-Clarons (305/9 and 210/9) in modern black rim Copal shutters, 4x5 reducing back, 4 Fideltiy Elite 8x10 holders, full Lee filter kit including compendium shade, Brand new Calumet (sniff...) oversized focusing cloth, a massive hand-sized cable release, and a few filters and other small items.

I disassembled mine completely. Cleaned and polished every nook, cranny, nut and bolt until they gleamed like new. Repainted the body using an agonizing amount of detailed masking, applying a rugged epoxy black paint. Had the lenses professionally cleaned and the shutters tested. They too were perfect.

I couldn't be happier. Best money (and time) I ever spent. And I wouldn't trade my Beast for any lightweight 8x10 on the market. But I do acknowledge that this camera is not for everyone.

I would caution the OP to make sure he gets that mounting block in any deal. That's crucial, and is sometimes missing and not part of the offering. Also, don't necessarily let a bad bellows kill an otherwise good deal. I've checked with Turner Bellows in Rochester, NY and been quoted (a few years ago) a replacement cost of only $275, with a 2-3 week lead time.

I thought that was very fair. Especially since 8x10 is not a cost-cutter's format to begin with.

That USD $200 C1 up for auction?

It eventually sold for $676 + ~$60 shipping = USD ~$736...
