Can anyone who owns this lens help me?
I just bought this on fee-Bay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7509954888&rd=1&sspagename=STRK:MEWN:IT&rd=1
I am not familiar with the S II designation, and don't own a Caltar lens. I hope to use this on my 11x14, somewhere between my 300 mm Dagor and the 21-1/4 in Ektanon.
This lens looks like a Schneider Symmar-S. What's the "II" for?
Any coverage data?

If nothing else, I'll have acquired my 4th Copal #3 for about the going price of the shutter alone. :D

If it looks like a duck....

It is a Schneider Symmar-S. According to Schneider, at f/22, it has a 70 degree angle of view and an image circle of 491mm. More data on this lens can be found here

I had that one on my watch list. It's a Schneider Symmar-S. Should be a nice lens.

I have one of these..its a Symmar-S...mine says 'multicoated' on it. I think kerry thalmann wrote a good article on caltar lense designations in view camera magazine last year some time...the one you have is definitely a Symmar-S.

My data sheet lists the 360mm Caltar S II as having an image circle of 504mm (and the Caltar II as having a smaller 435mm I.C.)

I have one also. great lens as long as you don't have to buy filters for it. The II is because they had previously had an "S" series in the late 60's early 70's. These were late 70's - mid 80's. SII is always a Schneider Symmar and almost always multicoated. I enjoy this lens on 11X14 because I don't have to worry about running out of circle. Ramp up the front rise and lean out the back all you want.

The lens arrived Thursday, and it is now mounted to a lens board. I tried it out yesterday, and my fears were groundless. As Jim stated, there is plenty of coverage--2-3/4" of front rise. My old Empire State 11x14 has no front swings and no shift, so there is no way I can run out of coverage at wide open with this baby.
I will say that there is a lot of glass! It's a heavy lens with a Grandagon/S.A. wasp waist. The front element completely obscures the Copal #3 shutter. My lensboards are 6-1/4 x 6-1/4 so there's room. Don't try this on a 4 in. board! Filters are 122E, which I found new and in stock on B&H's website.
Can't wait to get out and burn the Efke with this one.
