Consider this the official call for entries for the Conference Photography Exhibition.

Details can be found here: (there was a url link here which no longer exists)

the entry form is here: (there was a url link here which no longer exists)

The gist is this:
You can enter up to 2 traditionally produced photographs. The cost is 25.00. If your photograph is accepted Elevator will mount and frame the image. There will be a private opening for Conference Attendees on the 4th and public reception on the 5th of May. We strongly recommend that you allow your photograph to be put up for sale and or silent auction, but you are not obliged to do so. 40% of the sale price is returned to APUG, but you are welcome to raise the percentage as high as you like. A portion of the proceeds will be used to cover framing and mounting costs.

I'd like to participate, but I'm not willing to send unmounted prints. Is this mandatory?

Ditto. I will neither submit, nor allow any print of mine to be exhibited, that has not been both drymounted and overmatted by me. This is non-negotiable.

You will find that this is an absolute deal killer among the Azo crowd.

Bear in mind that it's not unusual for a gallery to prefer a uniform mounting style for a group show. Individually, one wants one's work to look the way one wants it, but on the other hand, the gallery will want the show to look good as a whole, and a non-uniform mounting style can look sloppy, even if each work looks fine on its own.

David is right

I am looking for un mounted prints, I have some being supplied by some instructors and other printers. I am asking them to be in simple black wood frames if they are arriving the week of the conference.. preferably with alpharag - Neilson matts as they are sponsoring our Conference and as well the only rag board that Elevator uses.

Re the Azo Crowd

I can understand your concerns.. Use ArtCare Foam products if there is a backing to your presentation mounted prints and use Neilson Alpharag 8634 as your overmatt.
On a 16x20 print use optical center and 3,3,3 and 4 as a guideline for spacing around the image..

If you do the above your prints will have a better blend with the rest of the show and a better chance of being displayed.

Your prints will not be accepted if they have the following matt techniques
colour matts, non archival board, vgrooves, double matts , inlays ....this is unnegotiatable

I understand Bob's point, but a difference exists between how something is overmated versus how it is mounted - these are entirely different things. I consider the way I mount my prints to be part of the creative process because it can effect the surface of the print and determines the edges (when prints are corner mounted, you obscure the edges if the print was cropped at the edge of the image area). Galleries can overmat the print anyway they want, but asking photographers not to mount prints is like asking a painter to send in paintings where the canvas isn't stretched over a wooden frame.

Bob, thanks. I pressed "send" on my last post before your last message came through. Appreciate the exception.

which size is alowed? also I would like to sent photos
thanx in advance

Most any size you like. If you contact a 35mm or send a 40"x50" they will need to be pretty gosh darn amazing to get in.

What are the submission dates and who is judging?

The print has to arrive by April 1 2006.

I believe both questions are answerred on the show page and entry form.

If we can't attend, is it still appropriate to send an entry?

The show is open to:
  1. all APUG Members
  2. all conference attendees including:
    • instructors and
    • volunteers

We would like as many entries as possible and encourge those who can't make the conference to submit photos for the show.
