I acquired an Xrite 801 and it did not include any calibration cards.

I will be using this mainly with B&W film and likely some B&W prints from time to time.

I purchased some step wedges from Stouffer for both Transmission and Reflective calibration. The issue for me is the calibration process. Following the directions to do the transmission calibration I read the step wedge, then it proceeds to ask for the three color densities (RGB) which I do not have this information.

To me, it sounds like I am calibrating in color but I have not found anything to go with B&W. I do have a color reflective step wedge, but the color data is for CMYK.

Thoughts?

I consider the densitometer to be very much like an antenna analyzer, "A device that will both enlighten and confound you" šŸ˜

Will you be doing color? If not, you might presume the color transmission densities might be all pretty close. Here is my step wedge and you can see how close all the color densities are. Just tell the machine they are all the same.

I can't envision a situation where I would be doing color.

If I do, I need to find a color step wedge that has the densities in RGB, the one from Stouffer is CMYK. I will give it a go.

FWIW, the machine is reasonably close to the values on the cards...

Model 801 or 810?

All the Xrite densitometers I have used have a "visual density" mode, which is what you want.

I plan to dig it out in a few minutes and play with it. I just got home from work, that nasty endeavor that funds the darkroom hobby...
