Disclaimer: Do not try this. I haven't seen anyone post this mod for adding a cable release to a Moment-24c of the Moscva (Moscba) 5 folder.

I got a deal with a broken 6x9 Russian folder. Body and bellows were useless. I scraped them. I used the lens and shutter for some project cameras. It worked well a bit, but I found that I needed a cable release for the longer exposures. I did not want to mess with a good thing so I just used the lens and shutter as is. One day I dropped the lens, things got screwy with the shutter for the B and 1 sec setting. Decided to open the shutter up. Be aware of the set tabs that hold the mounting face of the speed set ring. More on that later...

The Bulb setting problem was an easy fix, a matter of putting things in the right place. But I noticed a lever, it is circled red in the first picture. If I cock the shutter, pushing the lever acted the same way as the shutter release arm.

Hmmm, a drilled hole on the side of the shutter would allow a cable release to trigger the shutter.

Eye-balled the best place for the hole and started drilling. A tap allows for the screw head of the cable release to screw in a little bit while the cable release plunger activated the shutter.

Once the cable release could be screwed in I needed to re-assemble the shutter cover. The set tabs for the mounting face broke while I tried to reassemble it, so I had to use epoxy to ensure that the set tabs hold the mounting face. Beware that the epoxy does not glue the shutter speed ring to one position. Once you have reassembled the shutter, you have a (hopefully) working shutter with a cable release location. I am still trying to find a better solution to the screw mount for the cable release, but for now it works well for my purposes ... a cable release mount from a Polaroid I disassembled was a good candidate. I just can not seem to find it now

Currenlty (sometimes) used on a crown graflex 4x5 and Calumet c2 6x7 back. And please do not ask about the rangefinder. Some may not be too happy about that one.

Linhoff has great cable-release-adapters for use with their Technica plates.
They are relatively easy to install on any lensplate. (2 holes)

Hi Archphoto,

This lens and shutter is more for projects more than any serious work. I have moved it around to different camera bodies, from two different Polaroid body types and the Crown board it currently resides in. Having a Cable release slot on the shutter body just made more sense. But I will look into the adapter from Linhoff if I need one again.
