Any guidance to find a cable release that works on a Number 5 Ilex Universal Shutter would be appreciated.

I have 7 different cable releases however none of them will fire the shutter. It seems as though the cable release plungers are not long enough to fully push the release mechanism.

Thank you in advance.

Cheers Michael.

You may need to adjust the release mechanism in the shutter. Those old Ilex shutters are quite simple to work on. That stated, I'm not the guy to ask how because I can't remember how.

I posted on LFPF but I will post on here as well in case others are interested too.

I measured both a cloth covered Gepe and a Prontor. The Gepe measured 3/4" and the Prontor 7/8". Both will trip my Kodak Commercial Ektar's Ilex #5 shutter.

Gepes can be purchased new. Used Prontors show up occasionally on Ebay.

What about a self timer for these? I have a Kopil wind-up jobbie which works great with my Crown Graphic, but the cable doesn't seem long enough to trigger the Ilex #5. It moves the shutter release part way, then it just resets at the end of its cycle.

I finally found my cable release and in Australia. It is an old Prontor with a 22 mm plunger. It fires my Ilex 5 Shutter. A happy man.
