I don't know how you treat cable releases, bu thtat one should last 10+ years. I have releases I have used off and on for 50+ years.

Same here.

Obviously there are cheap ones currently available, but a good one should last for decades.

Base your selection on the country where the item is made.

Basically, the more sturdy the cover of the cable the less likely it will kink. But then it gets less flexible and then to avoid camera shake one rather must chose it in a longer version.
Also the way one uses it, influences possible shake.

Maybe you get yourself two cable releases, one very flexibel (as in cloth covered) and a very sturdy one for your rough use.

The cable release shown is very similar to mine (now about 23 years old); I also have a more flexible cloth-covered one.

Anyway, I've been using them for a long time on my Hasselblads - again, 23 years. I've never had one fail. Usually I pre-release the camera and use the cable to trip the shutter. I will say that I don't leave the cable connected and dangling for long periods of time.

My shutter release cables last decades. Most have a metal sheath, some has cloth sheaths.

That's not a cable release;it's a joke!;way to short.mine was bought from Calumet when they were still around;soft plastic outer and about 40 cm long. You just softly loop them and put them into the camera bag without bending them too much, after looped, tyou should be able to push them easily and they should return by themselves or ,they are bound too tight.

I doubt that I've ever broken one, but I'm providing a goodly number to the 4th
dimension where my lost socks go.
A lot of folks have been happy with Hama.
Brands that I've used and lasted In no particular order:
Canon
Minolta
Nikon
Horseman
The better GEPEs are German made & good too.

I like my Prontors for large format. They were German made and are very high quality. You can find them used on Ebay. Be patient and you can find some deals. For medium format I prefer my short cloth covered Gepe releases. There are also made in Germany.

I have a lot of respect for Germany. The products they make are high quality just like the Swiss.

I have never had one go bad. I still have one I bought about 1983 or close to that. I do like a couple new ones I have both are Nikons and they are soft and have a cloth covering easy to roll up and store in a small space in the camera bag.

Or any European car if you are interested in reliability or not spending an arm and a leg. It's hard to beat a Toyota or Honda.

My wife worked with another lady who owned a Mercedes and their boss owns an Audi. Every time they had their expensive German cars serviced (which was often) it cost them $500 or more. My wife's Toyota Tacoma pickup only needed normal servicing and was very inexpensive to own. Her truck has since been replaced with a Toyota Corolla which also has been very inexpensive to own.

A BMW would be a lot more fun to drive than my wife's Corolla but just not as reliable or inexpensive to own. It all depends upon which you prefer.

I like Nikon AR-3 cable releases. Solid construction, very smooth and not expensive. I've had some of those chinzy releases like you showed and don't like them. The AR-7s are easy to find on Ebay.

Check with Peter and Lasse at Wibergs Foto on Östermalm. They had heaps of old sturdy cable releases when I was last there.

You need to specific, WHAT broke/went wrong on the cable release.
Did the tip break off, did the cable kink, ???
