Cable Release and 90 Degree Bend

I recently bought a U-shaped cable release adapter to use with my 90mm super-angulon on a recessed lens board.

I am finding that my longer cable releases will not trip the shutter. They seem to flex just enough to not apply enough pressure to trip the shutter.

The same cable release direct to the shutter works fine. I admit the super- angulon seems to take more pressure to release.

I fitted the adapter to my 210mm and the long releases worked fine.

Has anyone else had this issue? Maybe my slightly used adapter is stick or maybe I need to service my 90mm.

The angle shown in 180 degrees, not 90. But the issue you may be having is the cable releases have a 'throw' that trips the shutter, and the adapter might not have sufficient 'throw' to trigger your shutter release. For one example, Linhof cable releases only give you about 12 mm effective throw and a Copal press shutter needs about 13 mm to fire. In reporting about different throw length, one user said the shorter ones were around 1.8 cm and the longest one was about 2.4 cm. It would appear that the U-shape adapter is inherently limited in its throw.

I’ve found that a flexible adapter works better than rigid in recessed lens boards. 90/5.6 SuperAngulon with Copal 0.

What brand should I look for a flexible adapter.

You need to find an adapther with sufficiently long 'throw' to trigger your Copal shutter on the Super Angulon lens. If your cable release (without angle adapter) works to trigger the shutter, measure it, and try to find an adapter with similar capability.

I did just that. Works like a charm.

The real key is to use a short cable release. Less stretching.
