Hello all,

I have the opportunity to buy remainder chemicals from a minilab closing down. Their C41 machine is using the C41-RA process. I am running a Jobo ATL. Is it possible to use the bleach and fix of the C41 RA process in an ATL?

If yes, what times should I use?
BL-RA is 45 seconds, I should probably use a bit more in an ATL to be on th safe side.
BL-FX is 2x45 seconds in a reverse cascade. Should I also use two fix cycles in the Jobo, or is one fix cycle of around 2 minutes OK?

C41-RA is normally designed to be washless. Is it OK to end it with a "normal" wash cycle in the ATL?

Lots of questions, I know.
Thanks in advance for some sound advice on this!

I am using Kodak C-41-RA replenisher. I use it to replenish my regular Kodak C-41 1 liter sized developer, bleach and fixer. Works great. I maintain the same 3 min 15 second development, 6 min 30 sec bleach and 6 min 30 second fix. Only the development time is critical. I often bleach and fix for 8 min 30 sec just in case I under replenished the chemical. Kodak C-41 RA replenisher is great stuff. Works extremely well.

BL-RA

Dear Jan !!

It' should possible to use these RAPID bleaches, but I would be careful exeeding time to much. The used bleaching agent are Ammonium Nitrate or Ferric Nitrate instead of Ferric Ammonium EDTA. It seems to be more active and a short 45 sec. bleaching time is welcome for minilabs on speed... Althought bleaching goes to comletion and it's time can be exeeded in "normal" bleaches, there will be a reason why this "RA stuff" workes so fast. Double or triple time may be OK, but I would be a bit in sorrow about the dyes if prolonged the bleach time about 8 times...

A two stage fix is always good, saves fixer and leaves less Silver in the Film. A 8-10min. (water)wash will be perfect, film and ATL are clean now, ongoing stabilize your film (external) for about one minute.

This is from Kodak C-41 RA

Color Developing 195 sec. 37.6°C KODAK FLEXICOLORDeveloper Replenisher Lorr
Bleaching 45 sec. ~37°C KODAK FLEXICOLOR RA Bleach Replenisher NR
Fixing 1 45 sec. ~37°C
Fixing 2 45 sec. ~37°C KODAK FLEXICOLOR RA
Fixer and Replenisher
Stabilizing 1 20 sec. ~37°C
Stabilizing 2 20 sec. ~37°C
Stabilizing 3 20 sec. ~37°C
