C41 film in dektol d-72

In searching times, concentrations, and temperatures for this process, I found someone suggesting developing at 30C. Wouldn't a higher concentration be as effective?

I have a mix of 100, 200, and 400 speed colour films to develop in dektol. Does anyone have a proven time, temp, and concentration recipe?

D-72 for press negatives, dilute 1+1 and develop 5 minutes at 20c(68f). This is your jumping off point, and you will need to do your own testing to narrow down the results you desire. You can dilute 1+2 for less contrast. I use D-76 1+3 for30 minutes stand at 20c, 30 seconds initial agitation, then just walk away until you hear the buzzer. I have heard of people using Dektol 1+8 for film, I never tried it. I have used it at 1+8 for ortho film to achieve continuous tone.

I believe I'm correct in assuming that c41 film requires more development than B&W film because the colour film a) has less silver, and b) has an orange mask which lowers the contrast of the image. Right?

Not necessarily more development time, but you are correct about the contrast. I do stand development with color film ONLY, as I am usually busy doing other things and I'm not so interested in the outcome. Occasionally, I will print an image that I decide I can't live without. I have never developed any film for scanning, I only print so YMMV. I sold off my color processing gear a couple years back and shoot B&W almost exclusively, I shoot color maybe once a year at most so I really don't have notes. The last roll I shot came loaded in a P&S camera I picked up for a dollar in a thrift shop.

Few days ago I tried to develop old Orwochrom UT15 (25 ASA, 8 mm, color reversal, exposed as 6 ASA) in Dektol 1+2 @ 20*C to get BW negatives. And I got nothing Pure black film. Then I shortened developing time to 2,5 min and I saw very dark, non-contrast frames. So Dektol for this film is to strong. I don't care about grain and low tonal range. I'd like to see anything on such outdated film. My next step will be: Dektol 1+10 @ 20*C: 2,5, 5 and 7,5 min.

hi frank

what I do is make a batch of caffenol c and add 10 or20cc of stock dektol to it
I then dilute some dektol 1:7ish ...
I process the fillm in the dektol agitate 1min then 10s/min after that for 4 mins,
pour out the dektol, then put the caffenol ( or Dcaffenol ) in it, agitate continuously
for an additional 4 mins. you will have usable film.
I have some film to process soon and will be doing the method described for everything I exposed
b/w and color and chromes.
