I'm not a color guy but I have a crisis. I have a big pile of color film that I need to send out soon. Probably 10 rolls. Half C-41, half E-6; some 35mm and some 120. I don't necessarily have to send them to the same place, but I need to send them out soon because some of the rolls are over a year exposed! I have this problem about once a year due to my sporadic color shooting.

Once upon a time, I sent all my E-6 to Samy's in Santa Barbara. It was great. They closed, and I tried Dwaynes. I got back dirty slides a few times. Then I tried NCPS like Ken Rockwell raves about. They told me they couldn't mount my slides because they ran out of slide mounts and couldn't get any more. I tried Zebracolor on a forum recommendation and the E6 was good, but their C41 was beyond terrible. Maybe I will try Zebracolor again, only for E6.

What do people recommend for C41? I used to be a big fan of Walmart send-off service actually, for both 35mm and 120. But they stopped doing film a while back. So I need a send-out lab that will just develop and give me 4x6 prints--again, with good workmanship. I wouldn't mind scans either.

I think I am going to try Blue Moon in Portland. I want to "develop only" the C41 due to expected very low shooting ratio on these rolls, so I can throw most of the negatives away and figure out scanning for the good ones later. Blue Moon do that for $4.75 a roll, and their price for mounted slides is about $13 a roll. I will report back.

AGX is good for E-6, Dwayne's is good for both. I've sent a number of films to Dwayne's and only had three issues.

The didn't mount the Lomo E-6, saying the couldn't cleanly cut the acetate base; I'll take their word for it. They damaged a couple of frames on roll of Ektachrome while cutting/mounting; they didn't charge for the roll and sent a new roll of Provia to make up for it. Considering that the whole roll was pretty much throw-away shots, I think I came out very well on that deal. They didn't return one 620 spool, even though it was flagged and noted in several places. I made a quick phone call and three days later four 620 spools showed up in the mail box. Again, that is damn good customer service.
