I'd forgotten that Lange suffered from polio and died of it when it returned.

I'd forgotten that she'd been a successful San Francisco portrait photographer.

Big thanks. One of my favorite.

A dear friend, senior fellow photographer, visited her, probably drank a little wine, and was sad about the work he did (mass photos of students). She asked to see the contact prints in his camera box (was an EK view camera). She told him he'd been doing the most important photography possible, which more than consoled him.
