Buying red LED Christmas light strands?

At least one forum member is using these red LED decorative strands, usually sold around this time of year, and using them as supplemental darkroom lighting.

Anybody thinking of trying them out?

I use them and have helped others buy and use them too.
As long as they are up near the ceiling, mine pass the full Kodak Safelight Test with all the papers I use.

You need to test, because there are no guarantees they haven't changed since then.

I light my darkroom with red led rope light. Lots of light and no fogging. I too have them on the ceiling. Cheers!

I used LED string lights for many years. No fogging. I prefer more directed and shadowy safelight and switched to little red LED bulbs in a reflector housing.

I bought a ludicrously cheap spectroscope. Works well enough for figuring out what an LED (or a filter) is actually doing.
