I have just moved to Luxembourg, and this may be a long shot, but I was wondering if there are any local online shops you would recommend for film and chemistry or any shops in nearby Belgium or Germany. I used to live in the UK and there were several good online shops around but I would like to keep the shipping costs down

There's Grobet in Antwerp (www.grobet.be), but I usually order at fotoimpex Berlin.

In Brussels there is Photo Guy http://www.fotoguy.be/ (Nederlandstalig)

Concerning on-line shopping from Germany:
fotoimpex
phototec
nordfoto
brenner
macodirect
lumiere

In Nederland heb jij dan nog
fotohuisrovo

You can get something in a pinch at Lecuit, but the prices will make you change your mind real quick...plus they usually are out of stock and have to order everything.

To get something real fast do the following:

- order at nordfoto.de (#1 for speed - unbelievable) or fotoimpex (also very fast)
- pay by credit card or bank transfer - if you do a bank transfer, make sure your bank does not play with your money for a day or two, but sends it right away (Euro transfers happen somewhere around 10 am)
-get your stuff on the morning of the second day

The expensive option: take a 2 hour train and go to Brussels to Photo Guy - has everything, in stock.

I don't think so. My transfers from Luxembourg to Germany have usually taken 24 hours if done during working hours.

True - but your bank might give you a time in the morning after which they do the transfer the following day.

Best is to check with the bank what is the cutoff time, if there is any, and if it applies to transfers done online (faster than walking to the bank, filling out a form etc).

I know two shops in Luxembourg (where I live) supplying photo consumables: Lecuit (Leica importer) which is rather more into hardware; and Fototrade, route d'Esch which has very helpful staff but often low on stock. They will order anything for you, I have the impression their prices are high, f.ex. Ilford Rapid Fixer 1l 21.90€ off the shelf which I bought recently.

For raw chemicals for mixing up your own recipes, the best place is:

Fototechnik Suvatlar,
Simrockstr.178a, D-22589 Hamburg.
Tel.040/397931 und 395709
Fax: 040/39190866
Mobil: 0173/6011772
E-Mail: fotosuvatlar@live.de

A great old fashioned firm which will supply raw chemicals in small amounts.

Best,

David

There are too much specialized shops for film, paper and chemicals in Germany to remember all....

Henning
