Does anyone know

Where to buy imaging-grade, possibly even color, CCDs, whether linear or matrix;

How to implement CCDs into microcontroller or desktop-hardware level system?

I want to build a continuous-motion roller transport scanner but I can't find anywhere that sells linear CCDs suitable for imaging. Flatbed scanners have them, but yanking one out of a flatbed in usable condition would be a reverse-engineering feat all itself. Can't I buy a nice decent-resolution image sensor, maybe on a breakout board, with a datasheet? My usual electronics sources don't have anything of the sort; the only CCDs I can find are low-resolution ones used for things like interferometry and laser positioning.
