Given that the largest selection of camera equipment for sale is in Japan, I was wondering if anyone has tried using buyee.jp to buy things from Yahoo Auction Japan?

(they are basically a proxy service, they bid for you, they are the domestic shipping destination the seller ship the item to, and they reship the item to you internationally.)

(for Black Adder fans, the name sounds like a famous line from Queenie)

I've used buyee.jp. It works. The item I bought was a dud, as far as I know I have no recourse.

Before you try to buy anything from Japan via buyee, use their facility for estimating shipping charges. I believe that they've recently risen considerably, making what look like bargains based on purchase price much less so.

yeah, I looked that over, and it doesn't make sense for items where you're hoping to save ~$50 or something like that, since you'll pay ~$40 in fees including shipping for a 1kg shipment. My interest was it listed a rare lens, and if it gives me access to some things that I can't find through other sources, I may use it (but not if its a scam.)
