Busch Glaucar??

Hello friends,

today I've noticed a strange lens - old (20s ?) Busch Glaucar, apparently 80/2 (????), in a very strange assembly - quite unusual, I must say. I can get it for free - the question is, do I need it, and what could it be?

That's a strange lens indeed! It might be a movie lens, and according to the Vade Mecum it might be a 1+2+1+1 construction. But the only f:2 Glaucar mentioned there is a 85mm, which is said to be "Rare, normally high priced items".

thank you for your information - I hope to get the lens tomorrow and see what it is I would post a picture on APUG - just for fun, I don't think this lens would have much use...

Free is rather expensive. Perhaps you can get money sent with the camera. Hold out for the best possible deal.

Maybe, maybe Today I've got the beast - and it's amazing It's fitted in a very special heavy brass body, with 25-lamelle iris up to f/4 (!!), and a three-blade "shutter" between the lenses, operated by a rather big handle outside. It's Glaucar-Anastigmat 80/2, yes, and it has an unusual optical scheme - a cemented front lens, and four (?) lenses after it. Ewww. A nice paperweight, or a gift for a collector.

The good news also is that I've got a very clean 135/6.3 Tessar, made in 1912 judging by its serial number, fitted in almost working Compound 00... he-he, is this lens worthy repairing the shutter? Perhaps yes, that's a very very early one...

No, my one is only 80 mm and is f/2 - and it's fitted not in a barrel I would take photos of it soon, just to show people.

Zhenya,

That Tessar should be in a #0-ish shutter. "Ish" because I guess it's a dial-set, and those are notoriously "ish"-ish. The nice thing is that they are really easy to repair, as long as no parts are missing! If you want to have a go at making an old shutter "go", this is the one to have a go at!

And that Glaucar is probably one of those "weird and wonderful" lenses - looks weird to us now, but was wonderful when made. As in "I wonder who will buy this?"...

Zhenya, on the one hand every aged lens is guilty until proven innocent.

On the other, I have a 130/6.3 CZJ Tessar in Compound and a 150/6.3 CZJ Tessar in barrel, also a couple of B&L f/6.3 Tessars, one in barrel, the other in Compound. The CZJ Tessars were made 1911-2. Both are superb, just superb, on 2x3. The 130's shutter is way off speed, so I shot it for test on my 2x3 Speed Graphic. The results convinced me that having the shutter overhauled will be worth the expense. The B&L's aren't quite as nice, not sure why.

Y'r Glaukar makes me think of the adjective glaucous. Perhaps it renders everything a corpse-like blue color. Sorry, couldn't resist.
