So, as said in a previous posting quite some time ago, I agreed to shoot the wedding (gratus) of my neighbor who's a young student, working part-time, who used to baby sit for us. Great, hard-working kid with no money.

That's all done now and & I'm trying to find a way to give these kids a memento of their ceremony without breaking my meager bank account. I'm looking for alternatives to my initial plan, if you all have any suggestions.

My idea was to give them a proof book of 5X5 images (2 up per page), which can be had in white, with roughly 30 or so B&W photos. In addition, I planned on one or two matted FB 8X8 prints (unframed). These will accompany a CD of the digital shlok I shot on the same occasion (they can buy prints on their own, if desired).

What thinkest thee? Is this enough?....I'm hesitant to spend more of my own time & inventory, but want to make sure they have a decent way to remember their day if they can't afford more?

That is a very nice gift as it is. I recently did a wedding for someone in a similar situation who agreed to do some work for me in exchange. I gave them a DVD with all the images and a couple of 8x10's (unframed) as well as a box of 4x6's I printed for them--including duplicates of some of the images. I did not do a book however.

Best regards,

Rudy

Some thing in that region.
I would give at least one 8x10 color aswell, something they can frame them selves.

Book or not: it depends a bit, you gave them them a CD, so they will be starting to print aswell and have to put those prints some where.....
Are you planning to give them a book with enough room for those prints ?

It is a nice gift anyway !

Most times for me, a pro gratis wedding is handing them the film and wishing them well. I would think your idea to be more than sufficient.

sounds like a beautiful wedding present!
i am sure they will be happy

Originally, just planning to give the 5X5 proof book with B&W prints. The color throws me for a loop, as they'll be 4X6 and require trimming to fit in a matching proof album. Some probably wouldn't trim well: Group shots where I filled the horizontal frame.

Oh, and John....

the Karma train never stops at your station if you're waiting for it! Maybe if I keep moving, it'll find me!

It certainly sounds like a great gift. I expect, however, that the proofs will be treated as the final images. That point notwithstanding, I don't think it's absolutely necessary that the 2 proof books (5x5, 4x6) exactly match. If different sized books with the same cover are available, that should work just fine.

How are you handling the negatives?

Good question! I'm planning to give them to the kids along with an explanation that these files should be longer lasting and instantly identifyable as photo images, no matter how much technology changes over the years.

I agree with Peter that one 8x10 print would be a nice addition since you can get 8x10 frames off the shelf on a budget as opposed to the extra effort/expense of framing 8x8's. Don't think it particularly matters if it's color or B&W, or whether it's cropped from digital or film. The point is just ease of getting it display-worthy.

Beyond that, I think you've already been generous. Very cool of you. I may use your offerings as a model for when the day comes I've got to do something like this.
