LTM and "lower cost" and "not Russian" seems like an impossible combination.

That's fair. I'm just not trying to spend over $500. I've seen some Orion 15s go for $200, but the f/6 is unappealing. And the Industar 69 is just flat out ugly. Deep down, looks matter, but if push comes to shove....

I-69 is half-frame lens and no RF coupling. I had it for M8 and it was awesome, sharp, no quirks lens.
I had Leitz, Voigtlander and FSU RF 28mm lenses. If I ever buy 28 again for RF it is going to be Orion-15, again. Leica sells it 28 f5.6 under “for rich and stupid price”, while lens is not any better if not worse comparing to Orion 15. It is lens for photography, not for been snobby, but cheap:smile:.
Get Canon 28 2.8 LTM, they are well bellow 500$.

Canon, Minolta, both made lens in M39 screw mount, Canon will be easier to find. I had the Canon 28,, 2.8 that I used on a Canon 7S, sharp as they get.

Yeah Canon looks like pretty much the only way to go. I just recently ordered a Jupiter 12 from Russia, but it probably won't arrive until the end of June. Seems like a great lens.

I like the Jupiter 12 I have (in Contax/Kiev mount) so far, but it's 35 mm. I might well get a Soviet 28 mm at some point, but I'll probably get longer lenses (90 mm and 135 mm) first.

The Cosina-Voigtlander 28mm f/1.9 Ultron used to be made in screw mount.
They seem to be available in decent condition for around/under $500.
Caveat: I've never even seen one in person, and have no direct experience with this one.

There's no need to double post...it just leads to confusion. I've asked the Mods to merge this to the the other.

Doesnt the voigtlander 25mm come in ltm? If you are not that picky about that 3mm wider you can try that. Besides that the canon is the only other "cheap" alternative.

The 28mm f/3.5 Avenon is a nice option. They were always a lower cost alternative. I see a few currently available on eBay.

Yes that was my choice for a wide. It is f4 and zone focus only, but a great little lens. I should use it more often, they all seem expensive now.

I recommend to get wide version on ventilated hood for this lens and 40.5mm filter.
7a focus tab is awesome on this lens.

Any idea of where I could get a lens hood for the Jupiter? I have seen how bad it can flare. Thanks!

Worst case, there at least used to be a web page around that would take your dimensions (lens outer diameter, focal length, frame format) and produce a PDF file you can print to make a card stock slip-on lens hood for literally any lens, on any camera, that has enough protrusion to slip the hood onto. Needs a printer that will feed heavier paper, or a means to copy at true 1:1 onto such paper, but you can check fit (maybe even get a single use) with regular printer paper.
