Hi all,

I trying to wrap my head around the sensiometric effects of some different methods of contraction that is not just cutting development time. Notably I am interested in the effects of Kachel's SLIMT (negative bleaching), Divided Pyrocat HD or Thornton's developer, and Sherman's extreme minimal agitation. Does anyone have curves that show the effect of applying these methods compared to normal development? I would be extra interested in curve files for WinPlotter, but beggars can't be choosers

What I am trying to understand is what the effect of these methods will be compared to just cutting development time to change the CI. Is the effect just to lower the CI while retaining curve shape? Or does the straight line response of the curve change to be not straight in the highlights? If it is the former, why even bother if you can just manipulate development time?

I would be interested in any insights.

Kind regards,
-Per

Kachel shows this as a somewhat exaggerated "ideal." Straight works good for me but I have made interesting images with all sorts of distorted curves.

Where is this picture from? This is a very surprising curve to me, I would have imagined that a method that disproportionally reduces the highlights would have reduced highlight contrast, not increased. But I guess it is hard to say much without knowing what the curve would have looked like without contraction (meaning what you are contracting down from).

If you say you prefer a linear curve response after contraction, is there any reason why one would not just decrease development time instead of using SLIMT or two bath which both are designed (as I understand it) to reduce densitity in the highlights?
