What wattage bulb should I get for my 5x7 Brumberger safe-light? I'm guessing 7 watts. It will be used in a full bath, about 8' x 11'. I'm not worried about getting the most light, I just don't want to cook the filter.

I've been going through some used equipment I purchased a couple years ago (hoping to stop procrastinating on printing), and figured I'd get a few spare bulbs; I already purchased some new filters. I can't quite make out the printing on the extant bulb, and with my luck, it'll burn out when I finally get set up to print.
Perhaps I could raid our old "cool touch" c7 incandescent Christmas tree bulbs (I think they are 5 watts). We have a ton of them, many older than me.

Also, I found a rubber boot inside the light, and am not sure what it is for, or if it even goes with the light. It does seem to fit over the switch, though. Any guesses?

Thanx

Now, I know some will tell me to get an LED bulb, but since they are rated at watt "equivalent" or "replacement," I still need a wattage (unless you want to state lumens, which will start the argument about the best measure, but will then go back to lumens being what most manufacturers list.)

Truzi, all of my incandescent safelight bulbs are 15 watts and I have never "fried" a filter in years of use. That was the size recommended for each of my safelights from the Kodak "beehive" to a 10 x 12 unit. Of course you will probably hear that 15 watts is too much (I haven't yet) but I have yet to have my safelights fog photo paper and when working in the darkroom, I test regularly. I do believe in replacing filters every thirty years or so.....Regards

The rubber boot might go onto the power cord where it enters the enclosure but not really sure. I use a 5x7 Premier safelight with a No. 2 Kodak filter. The bulb is 15 watts. Also 15 watts for a Kodak beehive lamp with an OC filter. At that low wattage they don't generate enough heat to affect the filter.

Thanx for the suggestions.

The boot doesn't go around the cord, though. The chord has a fairly standard plastic grommet where it enters the housing.

I have a Brumberger 5x7 lamp, nothing like that in or on it.

Toilet plunger.

Did it come from a bathroom darkroom?:whistling:

I'm not sure where it came from, I bought it used from a camera store... but when I finally start printing, my darkroom will be the bathroom
