Brownie question: Equivalent to the "Kodak Close-Up No. 13"

I just learned that Kodak had a "Kodak Close-Up No. 13" to allow the Brownie to closer than, say, eight feet minimum.

If you do not have that "No.13', could you use a near alternate?

Are you talking about a Brownie Hawkeye, there are many brownie cameras. You can use any closeup lens but you may have to guess on the distances if they are not designed for a specific lens. They usually come with a slip of paper telling how to convert the distance but that's mostly for cameras that can focus. I shot this one holding a Series 6 Kodak Portra Lens 3+ in front of the lens of an Ansco/Agfa Cadet B-2 box camera. I guessed the distance and it worked but that's a fixed focus lens so I think that makes it easier. I think only the vest pocket Brownie cameras could focus.

My brownie is the "Hawkeye Flash" bakelite body.

After a glass of wine, I found myself with a bid on a "Close up No.13", realizing it may have been made for another Hawkeye model. Duh.

The close-up No.13 attachment is correct for a Kodak Brownie Hawkeye Flash camera. There isn't anything particularly special about this attachment, it is a positive diopter that allows the camera to focus from 3-4.5 feet, other than it it designed to slip over the lens barrel of the Hawkeye which isn't threaded.

I have that one for my Hawkeye Flash. Flip the lens and use the close up attachment, that's how I did these.
