I just got my darkroom set up and mixed my first ever paper developer. I have read the on here that there was a problem with brown dectol and that legacy pro is the same basic formula, so I would like to know if I need to mix up a different batch (I bought 4 bags). I have only played with some old paper that is in rough shape so far, and it has developed in the stated 1 minute, but I want to be sure it is good before I inadvertently ruin my new good paper. Thank you very much for any advice.

I should add I just mixed it and it was brown already

If it is like the brown Kodak Dektol, the problem is cosmetic - the recent batch of brown Dektol works fine, but makes it hard to see the print in the tray.
But if it is due to a packaging failure or a contaminant that affects the working parts of the developer, it may not function properly.
Who did you buy it from, and what does their customer support suggest.

I got it from B&H, and have not contacted them as yet. If it is just cosmetic then I am ok with that, and it does appear to be work just fine. As I have never used paper developer before I wanted to ask here before contacting B&H. I have printed a few 8x10’s so far and nothing seams amiss so I will keep using it as is. Thanks for the reassuring response.

It should be replaced if it is not performing properly.
And it is harder to use, if it is hard to see your print developing.
You will be helping B&H and Legacy Pro if you bring an issue to their attention.

I will bring it to B&H’s attention then, hopefully helping everyone out. They are all from the same batch number. I can post that here later if that would help.

Just to update, B&H responded yesterday and I have decided to send back the three remaining packages of paper developer. I have lost faith that it will perform as intended after attempting a series of prints. I will be moving on to a different paper developer for the future. I might contact legacy pro just to let them know that I had an issue on the off chance that B&H has not informed them so that hopefully no one else has this problem in the future. Just in case anyone wanted to know the batch number of my four packages is 13336. I do hope this information is useful for someone. Thank you Matt King for your advice
