Brown Glycin Powder in Ansco 130

I just mixed up a liter of Ansco 130 from scratch for to use as a paper developer. The Glycin powder was chocolate brown and the stock solution never cleared from a dark coca cola color. Do you think that it is good? Should the color of the power be white to gray?

Curiously Glycin solid does not keep very well but once added to a developer keeps rather well. The question is whether the 130 works as expected and there is no staining. I would not purchase Glycin in amounts that cannot be used within a short time and keep the remaining solid in the freezer in doubled plastic bags. Always transfer the Glycin to a glass jar of appropriate size.

It probably works but will probably stain. Doesn't hurt to try it, but I wouldn't use it on my last sheet of paper that I was planning to display the next day. That's the one it will stain.

There is a law that states that "Of all possible outcomes the most disadvantageous occurs the most frequently." In other words, jelly bread always lands jelly side down.

I just mixed Ansco 130 from Glycin bought in January 2012. Glycin was kept in a freezer at -12°C and has white/yellowish colour at the moment. I'll see if it works.

I just used the last of my 100g bottle, 2+ years old. Works perfectly. Just taped the top and tossed it in the freezer. It was only slightly off white in the end.

Hi Tom ... My 130 kit looks the same. Medium brown glycin and mixes to a dark ice tea color and stays that way. Works fine.

Hello.
I mixed two months ago a kit from PF and the glycin power was totally brown.
The stock developer turned out dark brown and I think it stains (8 liter kit!).
This is the first time I use this developer, and I thought it was the way it was supposed to be, until I read this post.
Prints developed in this developer (Kentmere VC Select and Agfa Multicontrast MCP so far) look very good,
but I think there is some kind of stainning clearly visible in the white unexposed paper (margins).
Do you know if this stainning has any effect in the long term (In terms of image stability)?
Since I have another 8 liters stock kit (unoopenned package), I was wondering if you kow where I could get glycin.
I would also like to know how specifically I can call this component (formula or technical name?), since I will have to look for it in Spain.

Its more important to know what NOT to call it. Glycin (what you want) is not the same as glycine. It's certainly not glycerin either.

I don't recall if there is a current manufacturer outside of Photographer's Formulary in the US.
